HAT-TRICK OF TITLES IN THE BAG FOR HAUGHTON

Haughton Grey Horse secured their third title in as many years on Sunday and they didn’t even have to kick a ball. The only team who could of caught them, RFC, were beaten 3-4 by Argos/DHL. A double by the clinical Kokes plus a goal apiece from Hickman and Bickerton delivered the goods for the Warehousemen. The result means Haughton are now in esteemed company as they join the all-conquering Coundon team of the early ‘nougties’ as the only other team to win three in a row. Haughton’s Gary Connel reflected on the success, ‘Everyone’s delighted. It’s been very competitive this year and the lads deserve credit for wrapping things up with games to spare’ despite the win, Connel doesn’t think boss Ronnie Coleman will be resting on his laurels and had a warning to any pretenders to their crown ‘Ronnie will already be aiming to improve and make it 4 in a row in 2013’. DSIL President, Ken Moore, said the team are deserving winners, ‘Their results speak for themselves. It’s a fantastic achievement and to join a legendary team like Coundon, they can rightly be proud of their success. Plus with the two cup semis they have to play, I wouldn’t put it past them to make it a clean sweep’. Elsewhere, Shuttle finished their league campaign with a 5-2 victory over second bottom Brinkburn Lions. It now looks likely the Rocketmen will finish as runners up. Garry Mann said the Rolling Mill Allstars players were on fire as they beat The Saints 4-1 at Ferryhill in the Heart Foundation Cup. 'It was great performance and we look forward to flying the flag for the DSIL in the Semis'.
In Division 2 Grants continue to lead the way as Chris Hall (2), Pete Dawson (2) Jonathon Pearson and Daniel Wilson ensured a 6-1 win over lowly Croft at the RA. However, Harrowgate Hill beat Slaters 3-1 whilst Havelock Arms crushed ACE Cars 9-2 to ensure the pressure was kept up on the leaders. Adi Weston (4) Steven Howden (2), Nathan Walls (2) and Richard best netted for the Havvy. Earlier in the week, Slaters beat Park United 9-1 in a result that means Utd finish a maiden campaign without a point.
